1.      Locate two quotations that reveal the setting in your novel.  Explain what the quotation suggests about the setting and its impact on the protagonist and the meaning of the work.   Remember that setting is much more than location and may include social environment, occupations, culture, and moral attitudes.

“Bowmore county is known as cancer county.”  This quote explains what Krane Chemical has done in terms of pollution to Bowmore county.  The water is no longer drinkable, and just showering or bathing in the water could give someone cancer. Bowmore now has to import in water in order to have basic necessities and many have moved out.

“Not many had more money than the wall street guru Carl Trudeau” This quote shows the power and money that Carl Trudeau, CEO of Krane Chemical has. He uses this to secretly support Ron Fisk, a tactic  known as buying a supreme court justice. He spends over 9 million dollars in this support, in over to get a verdict that would save him billions of dollars, and make billions more.

2.      Identify four physical objects that are essential to the setting of the work and which represent one of the elements of setting listed below.  For each, explain what the object reveals about the specific element of setting and how the object helps to evoke a mood or atmosphere in the work.  Specific elements of the setting include:

  • the geographical location (its topography, scenery, and physical arrangements),

  • the occupations and daily manner of living of the characters,

  • the time period in which the action takes place (epoch in history or season of the year), and

  • the general environment of the characters (social, religious, cultural, moral, and emotional conditions and attitudes).

1. The courtroom: The majority of the beginning of the book takes place in a courtroom, where the town of Bowmore is eagerly waiting for the verdict to a 40 million dollar lawsuit. After the verdict, the cast regularly returns to the courtroom to hear and advice on appeals. The courtroom is also the location where the final appeal is ruled on.

2.Wall Street: the antagonist of the book is a major “player’ on wall street, with a net worth of over two billion dollars. he regularly flaunts his money around, such as buying his wife a 12 million dollar ring even after he lost one billion dollars, and uses his wall street influence to secretly buy a judge on the mississippi supreme court.

3. Bowmore: The city that crane chemical is polluting, also where two of the protagonists live. The city is known as cancer county, due to the amount of pollution from the old factory.

4. Mississippi: The state where the campaign for Ron Fisk is running for the Supreme court. He performs several speeches, runs ads, and travels all of the state to win support of the voters. The supreme court vote is also done around all of Mississippi.

1.   Find two quotations that portray the character of the protagonist.  Explain what the quotation reveals about the main character and the meaning of the work.

The  Two quotations are not by the protagonist himself, but he chose a motivational quote to start each chapter, so the quotes hereafter will be two of those. “ Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the only one who gets burned ” (buddha) “forget mistakes, forget failures, forget everything, except what you are going to do now and do it. today is your lucky day .”(will durant).  These quotes show the motivation and thought Phil Jackson puts into what he does. A big believer in Zen Buddhism, he uses integrates quotes into his  coaching methods to show the team what he cares about, how he goes about things, and most of all, how your mentality should be when you win

2.   Create a personalized license plate for the protagonist, which may contain no punctuation marks or symbols and which consists of no more than seven letters, seven numbers, or a combination thereof.  Explain why your license plate is apt for the character.

Phil Jacksons license plate number would be 91C00LA. It symbolizes the first NBA championships he one with each of the NBA franchises. These Wins, 91 in chicago, 2000 in LA, marked the start of a dynasty for each of these teams. Jackson would go win 11 championships, (6 in chicago, 5 in LA) and become known as the best coach of all time in the NBA, and those championships were the gateway wins for this

What aspects or General Themes from Cinthio’s Hecatommithi would make an interesting adaptation into Othello on stage?

I think that the toruture seen when there are trying to get the information about Desidomonne’s death would be an interesting adaptation. I think that Shakespeare could have tweaked and wrote lots of cool lines to this scene

I think Shakespeare chose to have Othello kill himself.

What are Hugo’s motives?

Hugo’s main motives are to earn approval of his dad, and to be the best, above everyone else. He uses the example of being a hawk to show how some people are above others, and how he aspires to be a hawk. He manipulates the other characters in order to get Oden and Mike off the team so he can be the team’s best players, and become the hawk.

Why is Oden vulnerable to Hugo’s Manipulations?

Oden is vulnerable to Hugo’s manipulations because of how in love he is with Desi. Hugo uses this to his advantage by putting thoughts in Oden’s head that are not there. Oden’s love for Desi skews his rational thoughts and forces him to resort to drastic measures
